About Me

I am passionate about adult lifelong learning, action learning and developing professional & leadership skills in the workplace, including developing workers’ resilience and stress management skills. Using action learning groups, bespoke training and consultation to problem solve and develop others in the workplace, I work to encourage well-being at work and develop potential in every individual—managers, staff or students.

I am an integrative registered counsellor & coach, which means I use different creative approaches to help people explore and think about what is troubling them. I focus on personal resilience and help people find solutions to move forward in their lives.

As a coach and mentor I facilitate an open learning approach to learning and personal/professional development—either continuing to develop skills at work and/or to support people in changing direction or achieving a goal to create change in their career.

Caroline Skinner Portrait

Caroline has successfully worked with managers and employees in Bracknell Forest for several years. In that time she has facilitated action learning sets for managers in Children’s Social Care which they find very helpful. She is supportive but also focused so that they do come away from the sessions with clear actions which they have agreed to undertake. We have renewed the contract year after year- because we have seen the effect on the managers.

We also have used Caroline as a coach or mentor to support managers new to the role, or social workers struggling with aspects of the job. Caroline ensures that the person, their manager and she are clear about the expectations of the support and we’ve never yet been disappointed!

I would recommend her to you!

Leah Thompson, Learning and Development Manager, Bracknell Forest Council

I very much appreciated Caroline’s approach which was to work together, as part of team, to prepare and manage the Panel. As Chair, Caroline facilitated large meetings of (often strong-minded!) practice educators, tutors, service users and agency reps with the perfect mix of authority, partnership-working and humour. Many cases were complex and Caroline was always careful to remind Panel members of the need to ensure confidentiality, sensitivity and professionalism. Although Caroline is now no longer the Chair, the foundations which she helped lay have ensured that the Panel continues to promote robust practice learning and placements.

A Placements Manager (Local University, 2012)

The concept of coaching and mentoring was completely alien to me before meeting Caroline, and in that respect I required lots of convincing to think that it would have any meaningful and tangible benefit to my daily work and practice. Caroline’s patient and reassuring approach made this a very easy transition and we quickly developed a dialogue that produced results. With Caroline, I was able to easily apply the new knowledge and skills into the workplace and reflect with her on how this went well and what could have been done differently. It was a safe space to honestly challenge and be challenged myself resulting in rich learning.

I found it of particular help not only with the seemingly tough and challenging scenarios but also with the day to day mundane topics. Caroline’s knowledge and experience catered seamlessly for both; I never felt like any issue I raised was too little to discuss and learn from. I am a convert to mentoring and coaching and now recommend it to those who I have gone on to support in their own professional development.

Jonny Bradish, Assistant Team Manager, Bracknell Forest Council

I have known Caroline for a number of years in her capacity of training provider. She has been providing bespoke training to YES+ for several years which has proved to be helpful in developing staff and subsequently increasing productivity. Everyone has found her style of delivery to be very accessible no matter what their level of knowledge.

Following Caroline providing bespoke training to YES+ we asked her to join our Board of Advisors in the area of Safeguarding. She has provided invaluable support and guidance in this area to the YES+ Management Team as well as providing up to date changes and amendments to current legislation.

Caroline has been a real asset to our organisation.

Fiona Medley, Development Manager, YES+

Caroline is an approachable, creative trainer/facilitator who works well with large and small groups. She is very knowledgeable in her areas of expertise and is adept at communicating key points to those she is training or to colleagues. Caroline has a good professional network spread across various organisations and Universities. She is prompt in liaising with commissioners of her services and her fees are competitive.
